Jazz in Arizona Inc. (Jazz in AZ) (JIA) is a non-profit community arts organization. Our mission is to encourage the local performance and appreciation of Jazz music - America’s great original art form.
Founded in 1977, Jazz in AZ has a membership of business and professional people, musicians, educators, students, and just plain listeners. We share a common focus: to help jazz thrive in Arizona and the Southwest by sponsoring live performances, by encouraging jazz education through our scholarships and clinics, and through the camaraderie of others with these interests.
The organization will open a performance and education center in downtown Phoenix called the Lewis Nash-Jazz in AZ Center in spring 2012 with an April 11 concert by Wynton Marsalis and the Lewis Nash Trio (Renowned drummer Nash was born and raised in Phoenix).
Jazz in AZ sponsors numerous live-jazz events, including monthly member parties, a season of concerts at the ASU Kerr Cultural Center, and the annual Chandler Jazz Festival; provides jazz-related information to members and the community through a bi-monthly newsletter and comprehensive website; and discount tickets to its members for live concerts and special events.
